About 99% of the grapes picked in the village of Rosswag go straight into the cellars of the locals with the express purpose of being enjoyed by the locals over a hearty, home-cooked meal. Hannes and Olympia, the fam at Roterfaden, have decided to share with the rest of us. Hannes is a Rosswag native and met his Greek goddess, Olympia at wine school. They traveled the world working in wine and decided to come back to Rosswag to actually make it. They work about 4 hectares of old vines in this super northerly village. All organic, all hands-off. A very pure expression of this nearly forgotten wine region.
Old vine lemberger (blaufränkisch) at 1,000 ft planted to steep limestone hillsides. Cool-climate, lean wines that are ethereal and high-toned with structure enough to stand up to hearty foods and cool climate stews. Energetic, smokey and mineral. Kewl AF.
