Dominque Joseph is among the 4th generation of winemakers to tend vines in the small village of Varrains, in Saumur Champigny. Dominique, or 'Pélo' as friends call him, has been running the show since 1990, farming 13 hectares of vines organically on limestone and tuffeau soils. His wines range from sparklely and easey, to the more serious, single vineyard vibe.
This Chenin Blanc is a rare goodie, as Dominque happens to be one of the last growers in the region to vinify Chenin Blanc from the lieu dit 'Perruchetes.' Most have replanted to Cab Franc. Les Perruchetes is grown on clay and limestone over silex, aged for 10 months in neutral barrel. It is a fruity, mineral and complex style of Chenin with lanolin and sheeps wool type texture. Bright acidity.
