Celler Pardas is the project of two growers from the Penedès,
Ramon Parera and Jordi Arnan. Ramon and Jordi came across a 30 hectare farm in the Alt Penedès called Can Comas, where various crops and the local varieties Sumoll and Xarel.lo are grown. They've restored and replanted only to these indigenous varieties, a practice becoming more and more common in Spain. They also source old vine Sumoll and Malvasía de Sitges, the local strain of Malvasía. They are low intervention type of dudes, and the wines are super vibrant, fresh and delightfully Mediterranean.
Sumoll was nearly extinct not too long ago, mostly due to phylloxera, Franco and some rough economics. It's sort of a pain to perfect, but very lively, pretty, soft, red fruity and surrounded by structure. Hook up a bottle of Sus Scrofa, slice a little sausage, grill some calçots and you are basically a Catalan now.
