Patrick Cappiello threw down the fancy New York restaurant Somm pin and took off for the mean streets of Lodi. With help from Cali's beloved winemaker, Pax Mahle, Monte Rio Cellars was born. Patrick, tired of coming across exceedingly expensive California wines, set out to make an affordable, low alcohol, fresh Cali #wineforthepeople. Monte Rio wines are old school style, terroir driven Cali wines at a great value.
100% Mission, whole cluster, carbonic fermented in stainless, aged in stainless and concrete. Fruity, delicate, pretty, elegant. Drinks well with Coltrane- the album or just Coltrane in general.
The Mission grape is cool AF, as it originated from Spain and made its way to California back in the dayyy. It was introduced to present-day California in the late 18th century by Franciscan Missonaries, the first planting of the grape in present-day California by Junipero Serra at Mission Sand Diego deAcalá in 1769. Known as Criolla and País in South America and Listán Prieto on the Canary Islands.
