Ok the Mönchhof estate winery is real old. Like Pope Alexander the III, Cistercian Abbey monks in the year 1177 kind of old. Napoleon owned it at some point kind of old. Vineyards sit on those famously, super steep terraces in the Mosel. All vineyards are made of Riesling, all vines sit on their own root stock. This is the shit dreams are made of.
The Auslese is of course a denser, richer, slightly sweeter style delineated by that blue slate, high altitude Mosel minerality. If you ever wanted to try a complex, pensive, balanced wine- try this one. On the nose we got toffee, cream, pineapple, smoke and herbs. On the palate we stay rich but decidedly delicate. Baked stone fruit, pear, orange blossom, herbs and anise. Eat with some spicy Thai or Vietnamese food and fly.
