Knoll ‘Pfaffenberg Selection’ Riesling Wachau, Austria 2013

People consider the wines of Knoll to be some of the best in the world. They are certainly ranked amongst the highest in Austria, where vines sit on steep terraced hills formed on metamorphic bedrock in the Wachau gorge. The Wachau is one of the coolest climates in Austria, but warm Pannonian winds move in from the east, temperatures are regulated by the Danube river and life for a grapevine is all gravy up in here.
The Pfaffenberg comes from one of the warmer vineyards, so she's got a few more curves to grab onto. Earth, petrol, citrus, apricots, body and of course that cool climate Wachau acidity to balance er out.
