It could be said Julien Sunier began his love affair for wine watching his mom trim the locks of cult Burgundy producer, Christophe Roumier. It was no doubt with Roumier that Julien learned first hand the traditions of Burgundy, the romance of wine making and his desire to explore the world of wine. Julien set out for California and New Zealand, headed back to France for work in biodynamic viticulture and became enamored with the wines of Beaujolais. In 2008 he landed 3 parcels of old vine Gamay in Fleurie, Morgon and Régnié. He converted all vineyards to organic. He employs whole cluster fermentation, slow press in an antique vertical press acquired from the Côte d'Or and aging in used barrels from his old pal, Christophe Roumier. Full circle, squad.
The Fleurie comes from 60 yr old vines planted to rocky pink granite at 500m elevation. Aged for up to 11 months in used Burgundy barrels. Light and flossy. Soft red and blue fruits with pink mineral notes.
