Jean-Yves Péron ‘Les Barrieux’ Roussane-Jacquere Savoie, France 2014
Regular priceSale price
Jean-Yves is a native of Savoie. He studied wine in Bordeaux in the late 90s, and got his natty wine feet wet in Cornas, Alsace and the Willamette Valley. He returned to the Savoie in 2004 to the village of Cheverie, and grows wine on steep schist slopes at 300-500 meters in altitude. Jean-Yves farms small parcels of Mondeuse, Jacquere, Roussane and Altesse and works with a small amount of Persan, a nearly extinct local variety. He's a fan of skin contact whites and carbonic reds. His wines are full of life and personality.
The Les Barrieux is made up of Roussane, Jacquere and Altesse grown on clay and limestone soils. It is macerated on the skins for two weeks and ages under a veil of yeast like a Jura style wine. It's intense and complex with flavors and aromas of baking spices, yellow apples, lemon zest and briney minerals. Super dry.
